SYNOPSIS
Amangol is a poor young woman. To help her find a well-paying job while protecting her virtue, her father shaves Amangol¡¯s head and disguises her as a man. Amangol changes her name, puts on men¡¯s clothing and finds employment at a carpet factory where most of the workers are women. Her status as a man allows her to get a better-paying job than the others and to send the much-needed money to her family. Amangol must remain cautious and secretive. Her precarious situation cannot tolerate even the slightest indiscretion. She works hard, but isn¡¯s spared rebuke and humiliation by her supervisor. Complicating matters for Amangol, however, is the attention she is getting from another young woman worker. Perhaps charmed by Amangol¡¯s gentle demeanour, Belgheis has developed a crush on the ¡°Young man?¡± ¡¦ (production notes)
