SYNOPSIS
Born to an Afghanistan father and an aboriginal mother, Jila possesses great beauty. She is baptized one after another by the indigenous religion of the aborigines, Christianity that she learned at a house of a missionary, and Islam, the religion of her father. However, as a woman her dreams and freedom are suppressed under a silence (The only person that sympathizes with her is her childhood friend Johan who loves music. One night he plays a beautiful serenade for her). The film is set in 19th century Australia in a multicultural environment, showing the birth, growth, and marriage of a woman. At the same time this is a continuous process of her life and freedom being suppressed by religious promises made of ¡®words.¡¯ Jila¡¯s life itself is tainted with men¡¯s words and promises.
As the film sometimes moves away from prose and is filled with images, Jila eventually sets off - to the beautiful dunes that will release her body, to the music of the nature that will release her soul. (Park Hyun-Sun)
