‘This film is dedicated to all the women who fought for a better world.’- This is how Times of Darkness begins. Times of Darkness is a Holocaust documentary, but it stands between Holocaust documentaries like Shoah(Claude Lanzmann, 1985) and Night and Fog(Alain Resnais, 1956) and dramatic films like Schindler’s List(1993). Thus it states the testimonies of survivors while the screen is made up of dramatic film grammar. Reenactment is used as a way to communicate the truth about incidents and history to audiences used to the codes of dramatic films.
 Times of Darkness deals with the Holocaust experiences of women who were Norwegian Jews under the Nazi rule that continued from 1933 to 1945. Here, the women are not passive victims of war, but are presented as active resistors and witnesses. They published a newspaper to inform women of the advent of the War, and through solidarity between women in the concentration camps, they learned how to live through hell and survived. Times of Darkness shows us that recording the testimonies of surviving victims and portraying them through dramatic film methods is another contemporary way of recording resistance history.
