SYNOPSIS
Vagabond begins with the discovery of a young woman frozen to death and pursues her vagabond life, Mona¡¯s itinerary toward death. Her appearance in a constant stage of wandering echoes our latent, hidden desires and/or suppressed dreams, while her outsider-like, unfamiliar femininity represents complex yet subversive beauty.
Agnès Varda reconstructs Mona¡¯s journey through a series of interviews with her acquaintances, and sometimes with scenes from an omniscient point of view. While witnessing this process, the audiences are met with questions of the real reason behind her death and whether they can understand her character. On the other hand, a series of ordinary characters appearing in the film - a shop owner, a shepherd, construction workers, illegal laborers, a repairman, and a maid produce a diverse yet introspective spectrum of the French society.
