Alex Houston is a white female wine importer in Manhattan. She dates Dana, a pilot who is half white and half black Jewish. In fear that Dana¡¯s biracial status might cause a commotion in her southern American family, she lies to Dana that her entire family is dead. When she visits her family with her gay best friend, Jonathan, to attend her sister Jeannie¡¯s wedding, she can¡¯t put to rest her family¡¯s suspicions about her love life. Jeannie declares that she is coming to New York to find out the truth¡¯s about her sister¡¯s sexuality so Alex and Jonathan hire Lisa, a butch lesbian, as Alex¡¯s lover, to keep Dana¡¯s a secret. When Jeannie comes to New York, an unexpected twist occurs: Lisa falls for Jeannie and Dana and his family become suspicious about Alex¡¯s sexuality and her family as well. When Dana and Alex finally gather their families and friends together, the truth is revealed finally. Using a light touch to deal with a heavy issue, this delightful romantic comedy reveals prejudice and discrimination regarding race and sexual orientation are not always external, but also internal. And it delivers a clear message that queerness is already internalized in every human relationship of all different races and sexualities. (KIM Sunah)
