In the 21st century, it is impossible to differentiate between an actual space and cyber space in daily life. This film takes this fear as a departure point by imagining a fatal virus which crosses the boundary between cyber/actual space. In this film, the actual space breaks into cyber space and cyber space breaks into actual space again. With this fascinating structure, this films raises concerns over voyeuristic pleasure. Tess and Jill, film school students, get spam mail with a porn file attachment while they work on an assignment about pornography. Jill opens the file while Tess steps out and Jill comes to a dreadful end. Tess goes to see Freakboy, an expert in porn distribution, to find out what the file is and the two of them set out to reveal the secret of the file named ¡®watch me¡¯. Nakada Hideo¡¯s The Ring has inspired the genre of horror film throughout the world. Even though the women ghost took over the typical crazy murder maniac with a chainsaw in Hollywood after The Ring¡¯ s huge success, it hasn¡¯t totally satisfied the majority of horror fans. An Austrailian, low-budget horror film, Watch Me brings forth more of the horror essence that made The Ring so scary than of its floppy, big-budget remakes. (Jay SOHN)
