Laila PAKALNINA

Laila PAKALNINALaila PAKALNINA
She was born in 1962 in Latvia and graduated in film direction from the Moscow Film Institute (VGIK). She has directed nearly 20 documentaries, shorts and features. Pakalnina appeared on the international scene when two of her documentaries were chosen for Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. Her first feature film, The Shoe (1998) revealed Pakalnina¡¯s sophisticated images, neorealistic charm, reconstructive ¡°documentary¡± approach and irony.
