Many of her video pieces are coming of age stories about her own experiences and longings as a young lesbian teenager. Evoking in turn playful seduction and painful honesty, Benning’s floating, close-up camera functions as her intimate revelations and definition of evocative experimental form. Her filmography includes Me & Rubyfruit (1989), Living Inside (1989), Jollies (1990), A Place Called Lovely (1991), It Wasn’t Love (1992), German Song (1995) and For Baby (2000).
