Synopsis

Sook-young, a model prisoner in her mid-thirties, is granted special leave to visit her mother's grave. On the train, she meets a young man named Hoon. He is deeply struck by her and approaches her without hesitation—unaware that she is a convicted murderer. As the two gradually come to understand each other's circumstances, they spend a night together and promise to meet again in two years. This film is director Kim Ki-young's distinctive remake of Lee Man-hee's celebrated work <i>Late Autumn </i>(1966).

Director

  • KIM Ki-young

    Born in Seoul, 1919, and graduated from the Graduate of Dentistry School at Seoul National University. When he was a student, he founded the National University Theater with his school drama club in 1947 and worked as a director. He is best known for the film The Housemaid (1960) which serves as the prototype of his later films including Woman of Fire (1971), The Insect Woman (1972), Hwa-Nyuh of ¡®82 (1982) and Carnivorous Animal (1984). Before the special retrospective at the Berlinale, KIM and his wife passed away in a fire accident in February 1998.
