Synopsis

Sung-hoon, a lawyer, becomes captivated by the strange allure of a mysterious woman in whose wake murders seem to follow. She is known by many names—Mrs. Yang, Miss Kang, Madam An, Carmen, Opium Flower, Venus—given to her both by herself and by others. Sung-hoon discovers that she is Min Hwa-jin, the half-sister of a wealthy businessman, now married to a man left paralyzed by a spinal injury. As her tangled relationships with various men unfold, the hidden depths of passion and desire are gradually revealed. Actress Kim Ji-mee stars as a devastating and seductive femme fatale in this classic Korean noir.

JO Hae-won

Born in 1934, Jo Hae-won was a member of the theater company August Theater and appeared in a supporting role in Shin Sang-ok’s The Flower in Hell in 1958. After working for many years as an assistant director, he made his directorial debut in 1965 with The Tiger Moth, starring Kim Ji-mee and Shin Young-kyun. He went on to direct a series of distinctive films blending mystery and action, including Red Ants (1966), Horrible 18 Days (1968), Escape in the Mist (1970), and Motel (1971).
