unPlug follows a young girl whose childhood wonder for animals gradually fades as she grows into adulthood, working in a sterile office analyzing video game avatars. Surrounded by screens, she drifts further from the natural world. At a meditation retreat promising participants a “transformation” into anthropomorphized animal avatars—a simulated stand-in for true connection with nature—she resists the artificial change. Instead, her long-buried instincts erupt in chaotic, surreal, and primordial animal forms, awakening her to the raw, untamed vitality that has been within her all along.
