The inspiration for Cupcakes, Lonely Cats originated from an online feature article published by Taiwanese CommonWealth Magazine, titled "Retired Professor Brings Cake to the Security Guard Every Day: Doesn't Want to Die Alone at Home Without Anyone Knowing." I've always been curious and concerned about how highly educated individuals spend their later years. This article made me think of a professor I deeply admired during my university days, as well as a persistent, inexplicable fear that has always been present in my heart during these years of living alone. 

I projected my feelings onto the character Liu Hui, hoping to explore how someone who is used to hiding themselves and maintaining a lofty demeanor confronts loneliness after losing the companionship of loved ones, through the unique friendship she forms with the community caretaker, Wang Guo Wen.
