Synopsis
In Mumbai, Nurse Prabha's routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest. Payal Kapadia won the Grand Prize at last year's Cannes Film Festival for this revelatory fiction feature debut.
Director's Statement
All That We Imagine as Light is my first fiction feature, but the fact that fiction and documentary can coexist remains important to me. I want to approach fiction through the lens of nonfiction. I find it fascinating to use both modes together—turning nonfiction into something like fiction, and fiction into something that feels like nonfiction.

Payal KAPADIAPayal Kapadia (b. 1986, Mumbai, India) is a filmmaker and writer. She is known for her short film Afternoon Clouds (2017), her documentary A Night of Knowing Nothing (2021), and her debut fiction feature All We Imagine as Light (2024), which won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
