In my home country of Afghanistan, telling these stories is often a matter of life and death.
When I decided to make this documentary, I envisioned myself standing with my camera against the Taliban. I could see myself facing the men who, 20 years ago, prevented me and millions of other girls from going to school—shackling my feet and silencing my voice in the process. In The Sharp Edge of Peace, we delve into the profound and often overlooked perspectives of Afghan women amidst the tumultuous landscape of peace and politics.
Against the backdrop of decades-long conflict, our documentary illuminates the journeys of four Afghan female peace negotiators, whose resilience and determination defy all odds—Fawzia Koofi, Fatima Gailani, Habiba Sarabi, and Sharifa Zurmati represent the perspective of Afghan women in this story.
In the shadow of uncertainty and danger, our team embarked on a mission to capture the raw emotions and unfiltered truths of those living in the aftermath of this conflict—particularly four of the women risking their lives to bring about real and lasting change.
