Synopsis
The annual Dharma camp at an all-girls school has the students placing red balloons under their shirts to simulate teenage pregnancy. However, the ethereal atmosphere of the girls shifts when Jay, the lecturer's son, arrives and puts Fleur's prohibited secret on edge to unveil.
Director's Statement
A girl¡¯s worst nightmare may not be teenage pregnancy itself, but the fear of ¡°being caught¡± having a teenage pregnancy.
In Thai society, the fear of teenage pregnancy is deeply ingrained within every institution—family, schools, government, and religion. School-organized Dharma camps become places where students are taught about the ¡°sins¡± of premarital sex and the severe consequences if a girl¡¯s belly swells before she graduates.
I¡¯ve always felt compelled to tell stories about women in my films. The essence of womanhood fascinates me, alongside the complexity of humanity. With this film, I wanted to explore the raw human instincts—curiosity and desire—of girls on the verge of adulthood—urges that society tries to control. In what small ways do these impulses manage to slip through the cracks, in quiet spaces between conversations, the brief movements of the body, or the silence around relationships?
