Synopsis
At a New Year's party with friends, Alexandra is raped in a dark adjacent room. Shattered and unaware of her assailant's identity, she leaves in silence—speaking only to her brother Adrian. Consumed by rage, he descends into a maddening quest for revenge, while Alexandra shuts herself off from the world. Her only refuge is the theater, where she vanishes into the role of Medea, the despairing mother from Greek tragedy who kills her own children. A tragedy of people devoured from within by grief, (self-)loathing, and fury.
Director's Statement
Although a necessary door has recently been opened to address issues such as those in our film, I think we still need to delve much deeper into all the ramifications and consequences of acts of sexual violence. It is necessary to open more narrative paths, and in our case, we want to bring this dirty and rabid female gaze... or delve into how the family environment tries to solve the problem without taking into account the needs and desires of the victim.
I wonder if, as a society, we have found the balance between justice and morality, or if it still seems insufficient, and therefore we feel the need to continue to trace the path and deliver the sentence on our own. I can't wait to tell this story with a feminine gaze that roars, from the claw, from violence and shame.
