SYNOPSIS

Set in Kenya, a powerful woman, Wanjugu Kimathi¡¯s search for her father's remains becomes an investigation into British colonial atrocities, including concentration camps and land theft that left hundreds of thousands of Kenyans destitute. Working closely with her mother, their efforts spark a larger movement, transforming Wanjugu into a powerful advocate championing justice and land resettlement for those dispossessed.

Director

  • Meena NANJI
    Meena Nanji is Kenyan-born of Indian heritage. Her award-winning work has screened on television and film festivals internationally, and focus on women and social justice issues, as well as race & gender rights. She has also worked as curator for film festivals, served as juror for foundation grants.
  • Zippy KIMUNDU
    Zippy Kimundu is an award-winning Kenyan filmmaker and educator. She received her Masters in Fine Arts from New York University- TischAsia, and has worked on both fiction and Non-Fiction projects in over 20 countries globally. She wrote and co-directed a short Documentary, A fork, a spoon & a KNIGHT with renowned director Mira Nair, and was the assistant editor on the Disney Film Queen of Katwe. In 2014, she founded afrofilmsinternational.com, a women-led Film and TV production company and creative¡¯s collective based in Kenya, working to ignite political consciousness, and action, across continents.
