This section showcases new queer films from around the world. We revisit social conventions and issues from feminist-queer perspectives and introduce films with queer representation. This year, four films—narrative and documentary—produced in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia, will be screened.
The feature film Ninja Motherf*cking Destruction follows the protagonist as they face their identity and selfhood, navigating through intimate and conflicted relationships on a journey of growth. The film was completed after an 8-year production period. The documentary Sally! vividly portrays the past and present of lesbian feminist activist and novelist Sally Gearhart, offering glimpses into the feminist movements of 20th-century America and the passionate lives of those who carried its spirit into the present. Queer as Punk opens with energetic punk music and follows the lives and activism of the Malaysian punk band ¡°Shh...Diam!¡±—a documentary that captures both the harsh realities and the joyful resistance of queer life.
This year¡¯s Queer Rainbow section presents three bold and nuanced contemporary films, along with a remastered version of Sally Potter¡¯s Orlando, which will be screened in South Korea for the first time. Through the time-traveling narrative, Tilda Swinton¡¯s performance as a character who traverses identity, and the continued inspiration of Virginia Woolf¡¯s original novel, we hope to create an opportunity to revisit today¡¯s questions with renewed insight.
