New Currents is the section that screens recent films produced by women directors from around the world which focus on the theme of women. The 24th SIWFF introduces 26 works of this nature. Female directors, who are engaged in filmmaking in their home cultures or who work in filmmaking as refugees or immigrants abroad, represent the diversity of women’s lives worldwide by employing various cinematic styles, such as science fiction, drama, comedy, thriller, war, documentary, and experimental film. The films carefully examine the locations and contexts of the respective histories, environments, joy, pain and solitude while exploring the distances to the relationships in each film.
