To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Jeong Jae-eun¡¯s monumental debut film, Take Care of My Cat (2001), the 23rd SIWFF showcases the digitally remastered version of the film for the first time. The story about the twenty-year-old women¡¯s friendship and growth resonates with today¡¯s women, regardless of the temporal gap of two decades. The cinematic landscape of the film, portraying the women in their early twenty against the backdrop of the IMF financial crisis juxtaposes at odds with today¡¯s women¡¯s reality in the COVID-19 pandemic era, conveying subtle feelings. This screening of Take Care of My Cat, which epitomizes new Korean women¡¯s cinema in the 2000s, will be a moment of solidarity of empathy across the generation and time. [KIM Hyunmin]
