Queer Rainbow introduces new queer films from around the world. Shows the latest trends in LGBT issues and queer film aesthetics, and screens films that ask and rethink the categories and concepts of social customs, identity, tolerance, and human rights from a feminist-queer perspective. The films of this year's Queer Rainbow section transform lesbian romance, reflect on and bless the history of queer art, and explore the structures of overlapping discrimination and oppression.
No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics is the work of queer cartoonists such as Alison Bechdel as in Bechdel Test, author of Dykes to Watch Out For and Fun Home, as well as Mary Wings, Jennifer Camper, Howard Cruse, etc. Through interviews with the queer cartoonists, the film unfolds the emergence, history, and significance of queer comics in North America. Forgotten Roads, See You Then, Aimez-vous Camping, and Bliss are films that try to expand and change lesbian romance, in which emotions of bliss and bitterness are captured vividly and sharply. The documentary and experimental films Unapologetic, The Wind from Nowhere, and NAL raise social issues from a critical point of view, but their narration and cinematic form are diverse. Composed of audio interviews and home video footage of four Asian queer women, The Way We Are emotionally conveys the relationship between family, growth and identity. As We Like It is a film that exudes queerness by taking the excuse of gender reversal in Shakespeare's As You Like It and exploring female, male, heterosexual, and homosexual performativity. Let¡¯s welcome to 10 films that explore cinematic ways of reproducing queerness with a variety of materials and themes. [HWANG Miyojo]
