This section features films selected by special curators, including filmmakers and experts from various fields, who choose films they wish to share with the audience. Following the 25th anniversary of the Seoul International Women¡¯s Film Festival last year, which provided a special section on rediscovering and re-examining masterpieces of women¡¯s cinema under the keyword RE:DISCOVER, the festival from this year aims to create an annual platform for networking and discussion. This initiative will involve collaborating with special curators to revisit films—whether classics or new releases—that they wish to explore with audiences in the context of contemporary narratives, forms, socio-cultural implications, and cinematic aesthetics.
This year¡¯s special curators are director Kim Do-young, known for her films Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 and Free Acting, as well as for her acting roles in various films such as A Bedsore and Last Child. Also participating is Jung HeeJin, author of Movies Watched Alone, After the Movie Passed Through My Body, and The Challenge of Feminism, which is often referred to as a feminism textbook. Jung is a critic, holds a Ph.D. in Women¡¯s Studies, and is the editor of the audio magazine Jung HeeJin¡¯s Study. Additionally, the Women Directors¡¯ Network (WDN), a group that began its formal activities at last year¡¯s 25th SIWFF, will participate. This network is a collective of women directors who gather to share information, support each other, and build connections.
