[Special Talk 1] History of Polish Women’s Movement in Cinema

Filmmakers such as Marta DZIDO and Piotr SLIWOWSKI have shed light on social movements led by women in the modern history of Poland. This year SIWFF screens Women Power, the depiction of women right’s movement by Polish women in early 1990s, and Solidarity according to Women, the search for female activists in the solidarity self governing trade union activities in the 1980s. In the Special Talk after the screening of Women Power, two directors, Marta DZIDO and Piotr SLIWOWSKI, and a Polish film scholar Monika TALARCZYK will discuss the history of women's movement in Poland.

[Special Talk 2] PARK Nam-ok, A First Korean Female

Director PARK Nam-ok of The Widow was the first female director in Korea who made a film in the midst of discrimination and prejudice in the male-centered film production filled with patriarchal injustices. She was so passionate enough to control the project while carrying her daughter on her back. She has become a great example to other filmmakers. However, she could not make her second film and passed away in 2017. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Korean films, the SIWFF presents a special talk with the director's daughter to talk about the late director's life and film.

[Special Talk 3] Speaking on the Current Meaning of Parituh

Parituh was the women’s media group who pursued independent, feminist films for the first time in Korea. To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the SIWFF holds a special event to recollect its founding background and the production and distribution of films made by the female community as well as to introspect the vestige and significance of Parituh in the history of women’s films in Korea.

[Special Talk 4] Feminist Activism Workshop

After the screening of four films produced by young female filmmakers, the panelists talk about their projects which are made to call people’s attention to women’s issues. They discuss young women’s challenges and their responses as well as the production and possibility of project films.
