SYNOPSIS

2014 Starter Film Award of the city of Munich – Best Director, Mumbai Women¡¯s International Film Festival

Helmut has convinced himself that he is the literal king of the housing project where he spends the last and lonely days of his live. Clara just moved into the apartment next door after being kicked out by her mom. She is not exactly enthusiastic about either her dead-end job at the cash register of a supermarket or her new home. But while Clara struggles with low self-esteem, Helmut discovers something special in his new neighbor.

Working at the supermarket checkout, Clara is a timid teenager with low self-confidence. The next-door neighbor of her apartment is an old man who claims himself as a king. This old man appoints Clara as his successor, just because he saw a photograph of young Clara in a princess dress. Portraying the interactions resulting from an accidental encounter of a gloomy teenager and an old man with a mental trouble, this film succeeds the pedigree of German comedy films, such as Nobody Loves Me, with a number of eccentric characters against the fable-like setting.
