SYNOPSIS

Audience Award – Documentary / Melbourne International Film Festival 2009
Cadillac People\'s Choice Award – Documentary / Toronto International Film Festival 2009

The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is the first time that the irrepressible Kiwi entertainment double act, Jools and Lynda Topp¡¯s extraordinary personal story has been told. The film offers a revealing look into the lives of the World¡¯s only comedic, country singing, dancing, and yodeling lesbian twin sisters. As well as rarely seen archive footage and home movies, the film features a series of special interviews with some of the Topp¡¯s infamous comedy alter-egos including candid chats with the two Kens, Camp Mother and Camp Leader, the Bowling Ladies and the Posh Socialite sisters, Prue and Dilly.

Being a hilarious, energetic, and happy music documentary, this film looks into the private lives of lesbian twins Linda and Jules, yodeling country singers and comediennes, and the cultural changes in New Zealand for half a century as it defines its national identity. After a happy childhood on a farm, the twin sisters start street performance joining the progressive social movement for anti-nuclear proliferation, land compensation for the Maori, and the revision of the homosexuality law in the early 80¡¯s. Being on a prime time TV comedy show, they also become public celebrities of main stream culture in New Zealand as well as icons of homosexuality camp culture. What makes this film especially attractive is the vitality and happiness it keeps throughout the film. They keep their passion in their performance when everybody says the heat of progressive revolution has extinguished. The impressive friendship the aboriginal activist shows, who worked together for progressive movement in their concert, is proof that the movement is still ongoing. They are, indeed, the genuine role models of our age. Most of all, this film will make you happy with joyful music, laugh, honesty and wisdom toward life, humor and wit it brings to you every moment.
