SYNOPSIS

Viva, Women Directors! was produced by the Tokyo International Women¡¯s Film Festival(TIWFF) to commemorate its 20th anniversary. The TIWFF, which has screened about 220 films from 38 countries over the last 20 years, have not a grand scale but may well be proud of its profound and longest history among women¡¯s film festivals in Asia. This documentary deals with the issues of women¡¯s cinema with the interviews of women directors whom The TIWFF has invited so far. It is composed of 13 sections, each of which has the related subtitle of the issue that it deals with. They range from Society and War, Marriage, Children, a Women¡¯s Perspective which raise women¡¯s awareness in general to Thoughts on Being a Woman Director, Fund Raising, and Production which specifically deals with the matter of filmmaking itself. It would be a great chance for the audience to see and hear the vivid voice of 12 women directors from Africa, Asia, and Europe like Agnieszka Holland, Isabel Coixet, Helma Sanders-Brahms, Byun Young-joo, Yim Soon-rye and Yi Un-hee while they talk about cinema, women and themselves in this documentary.
