SYNOPSIS
In 1929, in a peaceful rural village in Hungary, 51 women poisoned their husbands. The filmmaker journeys to the now almost abandoned village to hear the painful past as they remember it and observe their present lives. Perhaps the quiet but openly committed murders of their husbands were the only way they could escape from their restricted lives. Today, those who are left in this tranquil village have found their own humble ways to escape from their everyday lives, enjoying yoga or dance clubs. (Hong Soin)

Born in 1975, Astrid Bussink studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, AKI in Enschede. After the fireworks explosions in Enschede, she moved to Amsterdam and worked as a picture editor for the glossy business magazine Quote for several years. She studied the technical aspects of filmmaking at Open Studio in Amsterdam and received an M.A in film at the ECA. While studying for her master’s, she stayed in Budapest for four months to work together with the Budapest Film School (SZFE) to shoot her first documentary The Angelmakers. The Angelmakers was screened at the First Appearance competition of Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival.
