In partnership with the Ock Rang Cultural Foundation, the Seoul International Women's Film Festival as an incubator for women filmmakers, offers the Documentary Ock Rang Award to support women documentary filmmakers who present alternative worldviews and sensibilities in their works and convey various women's voices. The award was first introduced at the festival's 4th edition in 2002, and its scope was further expanded at the 10th SIWFF in 2008. YU Hyemin's feature-length film A Farewell to Throwaway Life, which won the Documentary Ock Rang Award and the Audience Award in 'Pitch & Catch', the festival's open pitching program aimed at discovering and fostering new projects by women filmmakers, will have its world premiere this year. The film tells the story of a twenty-something film director named Hyemin who meets Geumja, a veteran environmental activist in her 40s; together they put up a fight to drive out plastic bags from the local neighborhood.
